Position: Lead Project Manager/Country Manager

The Brazil ARR Lead Project Manager will lead everything related to the VCS validation process with support from the rest of the Brazil ARR Project Development team. Accompany third party auditors during VCS validation and VCS verification site visits. Moreover, he/she will work as the Country Manager and shall manage and lead daily operations of the company .
Key tasks include but are not limited to:
  • Set up and implement a monitoring plan of carbon project, and ensure projects are developed in conformity with Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC). Lead all stakeholder consultation and engagement with: local communities, indigenous communities in proxy areas, and relevant government entities. Close contact and liaison with Federal Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and local MS government (INMASUL) as well as regulators to ensure the Reflorestamento de Impacto na Brasil ARR carbon project becomes fully nested within the Brazil country baseline, to avoid double counting. Ensure registration at Brazil Carbon/JNR Project Registry. Secure the pathway to project and credit eligibility under the upcoming Brazilian ETS (Emissions Trading System), a cap-and-trade compliance carbon market.
  • Take part in lobby activities such as increasing pct. eligible carbon credits from the voluntary carbon market that can be used under the Brazil ETS.
  • Establish local partnerships and shall work closely with the Tree Production Manager to map and source new land areas that meet the established company criteria to align with carbon and biofeedstock certifications.
  • Act as spokesperson and representative of the company at local conferences and private- and public sector events related to forestry, Carbon and biofuels.
  • Work together with the marketing and PR team to position the company in Brazil and generate positive PR.
  • Brazil Country Manager tasks: Lead ongoing monthly reporting on KPIs, keep budgets, and liaise with Tree Production Manager to ensure production and field data is reported consistently and timely.
Experience/background/skills required:
  • Min. 3 years of professional experience in forest ecology, forestry carbon, with advanced knowledge on nature-based carbon projects, forest inventories and remote sensing.
  • Academic background: Environmental Engineer, Forest Engineer, Msc. in Natural Resource Management and Environmental Management, climate change law degree or similar
  • Basic understanding of Verified Carbon Standard and CCB processes.
  • Basic understanding of MRV and forest yield and growth modeling.
  • Strong understanding of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, and some level of understanding of Article 6.
  • Ideally (not a must) have entry level knowledge about key elements of the carbon markets
  • Understanding of agro-feedstock origination and agroforestry with silvopastoral systems.
  • Languages: Native Portugues, English (fluent), Spanish (advanced)
  • Have corporate experience, leadership and management skills
  • Highly organised, independent, proactive and self-motivated person, who is prepared to work hard to grow the company name in the Brazilian market, and establish the company as one of the leading reforestation operators and tree nurseries in the region.
  • Excellent numeracy skills and a keen interest in problem solving
  • Understanding of commercial contract structures
  • Ability to break down and solve problems through quantitative thinking and analysis
  • Excellent written and presentational skills
  • Strong attention to detail and able to identify what is most important to address
  • Can manage competing priorities and is respectful of others’ time in a busy organisation
  • Set high standards for ethical behaviour
  • Proficient in Google Suite, Office365, Data Management Software
  • Truly care about climate change and want to leave a better legacy for future generations
